Noah

Phase 1: Heritage & Background
·         Our family shapes us
·         Our culture shapes us
·         We have little control over either, but we can become different…

Phase 2: Choosing a Path
“Noah, however, found favor in the eyes of the LORD…Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his contemporaries; Noah walked with God.”
-Genesis 6:8-9

“(God) didn’t spare the ancient world, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness…”
-2Peter 2:5

Phase 3: Birthing a Vision
A Crisis
“Then God said to Noah, ‘I have decided to put an end to all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence because of them; therefore I am going to destroy them along with the earth.’”
-Genesis 6:13

A Call
·         “Make yourself an ark…” -Genesis 6:14
·         “Everything on earth will die. But I will establish My covenant with you, and you will enter the ark with your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives.” -Genesis 6:18
·         “You are also to bring into the ark two of every living thing of all flesh, male and female, to keep them alive with you”-Genesis 6:19

Phase 4: Fulfilling the Vision

  • “And Noah did this. He did everything that God had commanded him.

      Genesis 6:22

  • “Then the LORD said to Noah, ‘Enter the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you alone are righteous before Me in this generation…Seven days from now I will make it rain on the earth 40 days and 40 nights, and I will wipe off the face of the earth every living thing I have made.’” -Genesis 7:1,4

Phase 5: Survival (enduring in the ark)
“Seven days later the waters of the deluge came on the earth.”  -Genesis 7:10

Big Question – Will we hold onto our “ark” or move forward in faith?

Phase 6: Building for the Long Haul

  • “Then Noah built an altar to the LORD…” -Genesis 8:20
  • “God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth…I am confirming My covenant with you and your descendants after you…’” -Genesis 9:1,9
  • “Now Noah lived 350 years after the flood. So Noah’s life lasted 950 years; then he died.” -Genesis 9:28-29
