James 1:13-18

 

 

 

You will encounter trials…we live in a fallen world…

 

•         Tests of faith à endurance à maturity
•         Evidence the genuineness of faith

•         Receive the crown of life

 

 “When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’  For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death.” – James 1:13-15

 

Don’t blame God
•         God isn’t tempted, nor does he tempt
•         We are tempted by our own desire
–        Drawn away
–        Caught by enticement

•         Desire “conceived” à sin à death

•        

 

“Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.  He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first-fruits of all he created.” – James 1:16-18

 

Believe God’s goodness
•         What is good comes from God
•         He is unchanging

•         He purposed to give us life

 

Believe the message…let it displace the lies
James 1:19ff…believe and act on the word of truth
