Fusion: Current Teaching Series

This semester Fusion began a new teaching series called “Gospel Christianity.” There is a common misconception that the Gospel is only for unbelievers – something you believe in when you first start following Christ, and then move on from. Yet Paul wrote to the Roman church “I am eager to preach the Gospel to you who are at Rome” (1:15). This implies then even believers need to continue to hear the Gospel after they have given their lives to the pursuit of Jesus. Similarly, Paul reminds the Corinthian believers of the Gospel, effectively saying, “Don’t forget it! You were saved by it, will be sustained by it, and are currently standing in it” (1 Cor. 15:1-4). Paul’s method of ministry to believers was to re-preach the Gospel to them, and then to show how it applied more deeply to their lives. C.J. Mahaney says, “Reminding ourselves of the Gospel is the most important daily habit we can establish. If the gospel is the most vital news in the world, and if salvation by grace is the defining truth of our existence, we should create ways to immerse ourselves in these truths every day.” Think of the Gospel as God’s healthy diet. God designed us to require food. Knowing this, He used this need to communicate the importance of being sustained by the Good News of Christ. “Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst’” (John 6:35). “…whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:14). If we forget to feed on this daily diet of nourishing, sustaining refreshment from our Father, we are denying ourselves of the very truths that give life.
In this series we are seeking to answer questions like: Who is God?, What is wrong with us?, Who is Jesus?, and Why did He have to die? We will also discuss living out of the truths of the Gospel and the importance of preaching the Gospel to ourselves daily. My hope is for our youth to develop a firm foundation in the Gospel, finding their identity in being God’s child and living out of the Gospel truths on a daily basis.
