Pursuing Relationships that Change the World

“Pursuing”

...communicates that we are to be actively involved in what God is doing in peoples’ lives. Being a true follower of Christ requires responsible actions on our part. We can not take a passive role in this process. We are to pursue a relationship with God, with each other and with others around our lives.

“relationships”

...demonstrates our commitment to what lasts forever--God and people. Jesus taught that all of what God had revealed for people to follow could be summed up in two commands—love God and love others as yourself. (See Matthew 22:34-40; Mark 12:28-31)

“that change”

...shows that we believe God changes hearts. We do not possess the ability in ourselves to change anyone. But God initiates a process of change with those who trust in His Son, Jesus. (John 1:12; 14:15; Romans 6:1-4) Through this change we are made alive to God and are enabled to grow up in relationship with Him and others. (Ephesians 2:4-5; Romans 8:29; 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:2)

“the world”

...indicates the direction that God continues to move us. (John 3:16) God loves people and desires that they turn and trust in His Son, and experience forgiveness and life forever with Him. (1 Timothy 2:4) Though Jesus teaching makes it clear that not everyone will receive Him, His message is to be communicated and opportunity given to all peoples of the world. (Matthew 22:14; 24:14; 28:19; Acts 1:8)
